AVANT

Born in Benimaclet, in the alternative cultural scenes of the city of Valencia, AVANT is the latest exponent of Valencian urban music, sung in Valencian. Having grown up with trap in their headphones, they are now evolving towards other sounds, riding on beats that serve lyrics rooted in the neighborhood, secret relationships, and precarious lives. Young people from the neighborhood with a talent that signals a turning point in the future of urban music in the Valencian Community. They also embrace rhythms not commonly found in music made in the Valencian Community, such as trap, drill, or braz funk—rhythms that the youth demand. AVANT is made up of two 19-year-olds (Tomàs Torres Martín, singer, and Pol Mut Gosp, producer). Their songs mix trap and urban music sounds with instruments that Tomàs and Pol grew up with: electric guitar, violin, and piano. Their music is homemade, in the broadest sense of the word. The group was formed spontaneously after several nights in which Pol showed his beats to Tomàs, who had been writing lyrics since he was 16. From a young age, AVANT grew up with music as an essential companion. With conservatory training, Tomàs and Pol draw from influences ranging from Catalan bands like Flashy Ice Cream to American rappers like Lil Baby. AVANT's songs are born from the need of two young Valencians to express what they feel and live through music. That's why they follow the urban rhythms they listen to and recount the experiences and feelings that any other young person might have lived or felt.
